Sparsh Himalaya University, Dehradun (Uttarakhand) started in the year 2019 is a premier institution of higher learning that offers a variety of courses from graduate to doctoral scale covering an entire spectrum of cutting-edge technologies in the fields of Engineering, Commerce and Management, Medical & Health Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Education, Hospitality and Hotel Administration, Media and Design among others. The University has been established to provide a quality educational experience to students from different backgrounds and to impart competitive abilities along with industrial expertise to students.

Pro Vice Chancellor's Profile
Dr. R.C. Sundriyal is a distinguished researcher, scientist and academician having worked for over four decades with a significant focus on Himalayan ecology, biodiversity conservation, and natural resource management, at institutions like the GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development, HNB Garhwal University, and Herbal Research & Development Institute. He has published over 200 research publications, contributing extensively to understanding temperate forest structure, non-timber forest products (NTFPs), and rural ecosystem rehabilitation.
Key Experience-
Scientist and Group Head: Served in various capacities at the GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development (G.B. Pant Institute) for over 35 years, including assignments in Hqs (Almora) as well as in the North-East unit and Sikkim unit.
Academic and Administrative Leadership: Served formerly as Director of the Herbal Research and Development Institute, Government of Uttarakhand.
Professor: Joined the Department of Forestry & Natural Resources, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar (Garhwal), Uttarakhand in 2020 till 2025.
Research Contributions-
Forestry & Biodiversity: Conducted extensive studies on tree biomass, net primary productivity, and forest dynamics in the Western and Sikkim Himalaya.
Ecological Impact Assessment: Analyzed the impact of anthropogenic pressures (such as firewood extraction) on forest regeneration and structure in trekking corridors, specifically in Sikkim Himalaya.
NTFPs and Socio-economics: Carried out extensive research on wild edible plants and medicinal plants, focusing on their nutritive value, marketing potential, and domestication.
Sustainable Development: Worked on Integrated Watershed Management, sustainable rural technologies, and bamboo-based livelihood enhancement for rural communities.
Rehabilitation Ecology: Focused on natural regeneration dynamics, forest landscape restoration, and management strategies for degraded lands.
Awards and Recognition-
Vishisht Vaigyanik Puruskar: Conferred by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in 1999.
Uttarakhand Ratna: Awarded in 2011 by the All India Conference on Intellectuals (AICOI).
Fellowships: Fellow of the National Institute of Ecology since 1995.
Dr. Sundriyal’s work is characterized by a strong emphasis on integrating ecological research with livelihood improvement, particularly in fragile Himalayan regions.
